If you like to walk through this part of Central Park as I do, you may often hear wonderful sounding music coming from the underpass at the Bethesda fountain. No doubt because of the excellent acoustics many performers take advantage of this spot to show off their skills, and more than once I've taken advantage of their desire to perform for an audience, and capture some of them on film.

After a while though I felt I needed a look that was fresh, and wondered what new wrinkle might I add to do so, and that's when it occurred to me to switch my point of view and photograph some of the performers from behind instead of facing them. Then I could silhouette them against the most famous statue in the entire park. As fate would have it however, the constant parade of musicians playing for pay started annoying the powers that be, and they put up a sign declaring the area as a noise free zone, and forbade playing radio's and instruments here. So just when I had a nice fresh shot in mind for this wonderful spot, it was squashed before my first opportunity.

Then one day I was walking through the Mall on the way to the fountain, and again I heard music. When I walked down the steps lo and behold there was the familiar sight of a musician playing his cello despite the sign posted banning it. Thanking him silently for his courage I grabbed my camera from off my right hip and started shooting before anyone in charge could take away my inspiration.
