  • The little guy was so focused on looking for food that he totally ignored me, the whole time. And I tried to insure he'd continue to hunt despite my presence, by moving as little as humanly possible. Something that made my left knee ache and stiffen with pains so bad, at times I thought I'd wouldn't be able to continue. But he kept giving me such good poses.

  • When my camera froze up on me when I first spotted this heron, I was a bit perturbed as I watched it walk off in the distance as it searched for food. Fortunately he had quite an appetite and he doubled back searching all over the muddy stream that semi circled around me.<br />

Good thing too that I kept my equipment out in hopes that I might get another shot at capturing him, because he gave me plenty of opportunities as long as I rained in my place and made no sudden or threatening movements.

  • I still can't afford either of the super zooms from Nikon or Tamron that I covet. So I still have to use my old 300mm manual focus Nikkor for shots like this. But as this shot shows the only thing keeping me from getting great results with it is my ability to focus it properly. And this and many other shots in this sequence was with my 1.4x tele-converter on top of it. If either component wasn't up to snuff, those shots would look like crap. But Nikon is known for quality optics that stand the test of time for a reason.

  • After 3 hours of him going in and out of my view the green heron finally moved on and i tried to get up off my knees. Despite wearing knee pads on both knees and the softness of the marsh, my left knee (I usually only get down on my right one when I take pictures low to the ground) was in so much pain, I fell back to the ground, and rolled around in pain, wondering how I was going to make it home. But for all the pain this 55 year old body endured, I new at least I was going to have a lot of nice shots to show for it.
