Sun bitterns have the most spectacular colored plumage on the underside of their wings. Few birds I've seen make you gasp as they land on a branch wings spread then them. I tried many times to get a shot of that over the years at the Bronx zoo, back when I was living with mom in her apartment in the Bronx. But never came close to succeeding. Then here today on my first trip to the World of Birds in over 20 years I got an unexpected glance at that spectacular "under plumage." Still not the kind of shot I'm hoping for but it's a start.
