  • Today's Nor'easter threatened to dump 20 inches on NYC, but here on the Island we fortunately got around 6. After shoveling my home I came here to Clove lake for a quick once around the lake tour. For the first time since all the babes left the nest I spotted one of the parents in it, no doubt checking it out for winter damage to prepare it for next months new brood.
  • The wind and storm was so bad I wanted to pack as light as possible and left my tripod home. So if I was going to take pictures with my 300mm, it was going to have to be hand held to do it. Never tried it with my either of my D300's, and certainly never would have imagined trying it with film series Nikon's back in the day. But with this D500, I'm trying new stuff all the time. I'll definitely try hand holding this lens again in the future.

  • My 25 plus year old 300mm Nikkor, may be a manual focus relic from an ancient time, but it is also one of the finest performing 300mm lenses Nikon ever made. I've been shooting it with my D300's for the last 4 or 5 years or so, with excellent results (when I focused it properly). But now on my D810, with a full frame sensor and no anti-aliasing filter it's the perfect marriage. Like shooting with my F3 on Fuji 50 all over again. Just like I did back when I was a young whipper snapper. Now if I can just manage to not cut off any of the beaks...
  • Isn't he just so cute you could squeeze him like plushy toy.
  • My first time coming to the Red Panda's habitat here at the Central Park zoo. With the snow still on the ground from last weeks storm, it seemed like a good time to check it out.
