all creatures great and small
I was pretty sure I was going to visit the butterfly gardens today as how great a place is this to put my two new camera’s through their paces in. After taking lots of shots of the butterflies here I turned my attention to its feathered inhabitants as many were just as spectacular as the butterflies.
One such bird just left or was chased off by this bird arriving a few seconds before this. The sponge is filled with (I'm assuming) some kind of sugar water that approximates the nectar they ingest in the wild.
There are many such sponges scattered around the habitat. They have several large decorative glass dishes filled with the same liquid. The sponges are small and can't hold more than one bird at a time. The dishes large and pretty, can hold several birds and butterflies at a time. It's tranquil and pretty (see picture #393 of this gallery), with everyone getting along swimmingly. The much smaller sponges not so much, as you will see in the next pair of photo's.
