Raindrops puddles, people - nothing fazed him, AMAZING!!

 • Perfect placement of each strip of colored sand even as people walked all around and over his work. This man walking up to him with the cellphone stopped inches from Joe and right on top of his work and it didn't break his concentration one bit.
 • As I have aged I discovered that time truly does speed up as I get older. And as the months and years now whiz by at alarming speed, one of the things I have lost as I sought to keep up with the speeding clock, is getting together from time to time with friends I no longer work with or live near to. So this year I have made a concerted effort to get together with as many of those friends as I can.

On this cloudy drizzly day last month I got together after work with my friend and former co-worker Jesi for dinner at a restaurant on the lower east side called La Zarza's. I had enjoyed it so much after having dinner there with my one of my other wonderful friends - Toni (the mother of my two godson's), that I wanted to try out some other of their interesting dishes.

When Jesi said she wanted to walk there from our meeting place at Herald Square I was delighted as I love to walk, and the long trip might present me with some opportunities to photograph her looking into the window of some interesting and unusual shops. While none of the opportunities like that turned out to be artistic enough for me to want to capture, our trip down Broadway did give me the opportunity to meet Joe Mangrum for the first time.
 • So many people stopped by to look and photograph Joe's amazing artwork. I wanted to get a picture of one of them standing next to him admiring it, and when I saw this cute curly haired woman, covered in dreamy brown skin walk up to him to get a picture of it with her cellphone, I knew that my brother in San Monica was going to like her as much as I did. Naturally she became the perfect choice. So Cliff at least you know when I'm out there photographing I'm still thinking of you!

 • We all probably know some friend or relative who just can't stand being around kids. " Too noisy, always under foot, never stop talking" yadda yadda and so forth they echo. For them being thrust into a one on one situation with a bunch of children would be torture. No doubt there is validity to their line of thinking.

But the sounds of their endless energy is as fundamental to our well being as is the birds singing in the trees. So as for me, I just can't imagine a world without them.
 • To cap off our nice dinner at La Zarza's, Jesi took me to a tea house just off Washington Square Park. My very first time at a tea house. I liked it!

 • Often at this spot at the end of the parade route on Flatbush ave., participants were on the cellphone chatting with their friends, which made for images that lacked the fervor and energy of the folks marching down Eastern Parkway still posing for the crowds. But somehow this girl seemed to have an energetic quality about her as she chatted on her phone that made for a nice shot anyway.

 • My favorite shot from the parade this day, it captured the spirit of the day that welcomed everyone to join in and have fun.
 • It's nice to know that when your late for your spot on the float, there's always a chivalrous young man willing to speed you to where you've got to go.

 • The late day sun spreading it's warm red rays on the parade route helped signal that this years parade was coming to and end. But it also meant rich warm colors for photo opps, of island beauties in eye catching costumes.
 • My very last day of shooting with my beloved D300 before I traded it in the next afternoon for the new improved version. The day went out in a glorious splash of Caribbean color at the West Indian Day Parade.

 • While trying out my new D300s I ran across this family in Central Park and found a nice photo opp to add to my collection.
