A top notch Nikkor
Today when I left the house to spend the day photographing, I packed my 80-200mm F2.8 with the definite plan in mind to put this lens to the test, as well as see how good I was at handling this huge beasty of a lens.
I didn't even realize I ever owned it, as I stumbled across it in my basement about 2 years ago long after I had rescued all my other old manual focus lenses from their damp prison, when I read an article that warned me that lenses stored in your basement were almost sure to develop fungus on the glass that would ruin them.
This is just what happened, and over time as I saved up money I would send some of them to Focal Point Inc. in Colorado to take them apart clean them and put them back together again. They do tremendous work.
What sets this lens apart from all the other ones I sent them is that this one is an auto focus lens. I don't even remember buying an auto focus lens before I purchased my D300 in 07', but obviously I did.
I wasn't going to bother sending this lens to Focal Point Inc, because I figured how good could a first generation auto focus lens from over 20 years ago be? Then I read a couple of articles that said this particular iteration of this lens was the sharpest zoom Nikon ever made.
After reading that I was determined to save up enough money to send it to Focal Point Inc and see this for myself. Thus far I have to say it lives up to it's billing.
