Walking the dog
Slated to start jury duty tomorrow, I decided to head out to take pictures of our locally famous heron's nest today. Never having served in federal court before, who knows how long I may be on it, so I figured this could be my last photo opportunity for a while, better take advantage of it, as well as the rare opportunity to test out my two new camera's again.
I was eager enough at the idea to get up well before dawn if the weathermen predicted a nice moody fog or mist filled sunrise. But instead it was predicted to be crystal clear. With nothing but bare branches and dead vines awaiting me, few things were likely to look great at sunrise under that lighting condition, so I chose to sleep a little longer and leave the house around "seven-ish" instead.
As I began my leisurely stroll around the three lakes I came upon the foot bridges I've photographed several time's before. Having FINALLY succeeded in capturing one to my satisfaction last fall I saw nothing worth pulling out one of the camera's for today.
However as I approached the second foot bridge the low raking sunrise bathed the bridge in a nice warm gentle light, and created a nice reflection off the water.
Nonetheless not a particularly interesting visual given all the vegetation surrounding it was still in a state of winter slumber. But in the few times I've been out with my D810, I've yet to have an opportunity to take a shot at it's lowest light sensitivity setting (always the best setting for any camera). And at this setting of ISO 64 quality was purported to rival that of a medium format camera.
Dying to experience this for myself I was willing to try it out at that ISO even if my first opportunity was going to be on this dull scene.
After a couple of shots, a few early morning joggers came by, but at such a low ISO I couldn't freeze their motion enough. Plus their speedy gate really wasn't in keeping with this scene even if I had. OK time enough spent here maybe I'll get a more attractive chance sometime in the future.
As I turned around to put away my camera and move on, I spotted a man headed my way walking his dog, plus the dog had an enormous stick in his mouth. "Well looks like this bridge may give me a decent opportunity to see what ISO 64 finally looks like after all."
