• I have been hoping to capture some quality shots of Ava who lives next door to me almost since the day she was born, but I never had my camera equipment out when an opportune moment arose. But back in May a family of cats kept frequenting my backyard (the deck in my backyard is cat central for every feline for miles around for some reason). The pair of kittens of this newest non rent paying family to my back yard were just too irresistible to not try and photograph, so I took to leaving my camera on the kitchen table twenty four seven to take advantage of every opportunity I could get.

When I stepped outside my front door early one evening and saw Ava's mom Jessica playing with her, walking her on the hood of her brother's car who stopped by to visit, I saw the opportunity for another great candid and even better a great "two for" as I could get Jessica as well. I quickly walked back to the kitchen to grab my camera.

When I got back outside Jessica was no longer walking Ave across the car hood, and I disappointingly had to say goodbye to that potential great new shot to add to my candid gallery. But with Ava riding Jess's shoulders a great shot was still there to grab, even a candid one if I could get the shot off before they spotted my camera. Fat chance that that would ever happen with that honking 70-300mm zoom lens still attached to my equally imposing D300 in order to grab images of those skittish kittens in my backyard. But even as they turned and smiled for my impromptu little photo session, I could see I was going to get some good non candid shots that would look really nice in this my 'non candid' gallery instead.

The shots turned out to be superb, and I'm looking forward to adding many more of them and Cliff too as time goes by.
 • Momma & Baby girl
 • He's back. The mantis that I photographed in my garden a few weeks ago, has never left that I can tell, having spotted him from time to time while I worked on my front yard. Today was the last day my uncle from Michigan was staying with me and as we chatted in the front yard about a range of topics, I worked on watering and pruning my plants. As I watered my lilies I saw something jump, and saw it was my friend again. Not far away from where I first spotted him that evening a few weeks ago. So while uncle and I continued to chat, I went inside the house grabbed my camera and grabbed a bunch of shots of my bubble eyed friend.
 • Ok it's the first week of May, so it's to early for Halloween. Now I know there's probably a perfectly logical reason this young man is dressed like this in public, but not a single one can come to mind. But when he spotted my camera and started to pose I decided not to let my puzzlement get in the way of recording this for posterity.
 • Here my friends from work Sterling and Cynthia stopped to get some shots with the band that provided our poolside entertainment.
 • While we were out to sea headed for Bermuda one of my friends told me that we were headed into a storm and that the captain was changing our heading to go around it. I decided to go to a nice viewing spot to see the coming storm for myself. One thing I love about being out at sea, if the weather is clear enough you can just see for miles and miles and miles. And in this shot you could clearly see the coming storm out in the distance and the clear weather the captain turned the ship to head for.
