wedded bless in the fall
With a three day weekend in hand, and most of my household chores either already finished last weekend or put off till tomorrow, I decided to leave my house behind and capture some fall colors while there was still any left to get. Today I travelled out to Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Arriving at my favorite lake I spotted a pair of men, chatting and fishing together. They were quite likely regular fishing pals here as one of them had been photographed by me fishing at this spot before. Walking as far to my left as I could, I was attempting to get the face of the man closest to me out from behind some branches that were hanging out over the water. While doing so I noticed a bride and groom off to my right getting directions from their wedding photographers. Not wanting them to become distracted by having my telephoto lens pointing at them, I took one quick shot of the happy couple when their photographers weren't capturing them, and then returned my attention to my piscatorial pair behind the tree branches.
Finally realizing there was no spot available to stand that would get me a clean shot them both, I headed off to the bridge that crosses over the lake, hoping to see if it could be the centerpiece of a nice fall scenic shot. As I crested over the incline to the road that led to the bridge I saw a white reflection shimmering off the water in front of me. It took a half a second for me to realize it belonged to the dress of the afore mentioned bride. Tabling my bridge photographing plans for the moment I walked up to the waters edge and saw the newlyweds with their backs towards their photographers giving me a clear view of their faces from across this narrow channel of the lake. No doubt their photogs wanted to capture some shots of the bride and groom looking out over the lake, which from their vantage point would give them a nice spray of autumn colors reflecting off the water as a backdrop.
From where I was standing however the colors of the season made for a far less appealing backdrop, but the potential for a nice shot was still definitely there, so I stuck around for a little while. In between posing for different sets of shots the couple would relax and give each other playfully romantic glances, as newly married couples are wont to do, and during one of those lulls, I noticed some ducks headed their way,and so the best opportunity for a charming shot was being handed to me on a silver platter.
